Goal
After identifying a package design that could be improved upon functionally, I was to create a better design using only one sheet of cardstock (sleeve not included). The focus was on the functionality of the box alone, so as much of the original packaging art as possible was kept.
I had many goals I wanted to achieve with this new design of Q Workshop’s dice sets. Overall, I wanted this box to help new players if this was their first set of dice since this company is found in many places where tabletop games were sold.
My first goal was to make this box double as a resusable dice box and dice tray. To achieve this, I created separate slots for each die, like many dice boxes have, and chose to have have the sleeve be the opening mechanism for this box so that the dice were easily accessible. Part of the box can also flip out to create a small area where a player could roll their dice without fear of it falling.
My second goal was to help new players learn the different types of dice. Having run games for new players, I have seen firsthand how confusing throwing out terms like D20 ad D6 can get. Each slot is labeled with the commonly used term as well as a silhouette of the shape of the dice to give new players a cheat sheet should they need it.
