TEDx Revival
After a couple of years of inactivity, TEDx George Mason U was finally hosting an event again
2017
Goal
Being given the theme of “Revival”, I was to create a number of collateral to help ensure the success of the return of TEDx to Mason campus. The project spanned over four months, starting with a social media teaser to start spreading the news early on. Throughout the four months, a flyer, a handout, a Facebook banner, a lanyard badge, and a T-shirt were also requested. Unlike previous projects with Student Involvement, this project had a third party involved.

Highlights
Revival
Through discussions with the client about their reasoning for using revival as the theme, I was able to narrow down how I should depict the idea of revival. The EKG line showing activity after a long flatline could easily be understood as a revival. And since the iconography of the EKG line is often depicted in red, it easily fit with the branding guidelines of TEDx.
The clock, though not directly related to revivals, worked twofold. Since the first asset was a social media teaser, despite the event being months away, I wanted to make the event seem like something to look forward to and be worth counting down the days for. The clock also works with this particular theme because of the long period of inactivity from TEDxGeorgeMasonU.
Challenges
Working with TEDx
Working with a third party that I did not have direct contact with added a layer of complication. I had to create a design that adhered to TEDx’s brand guidelines as well as Student Involvement’s. This required extra research on what their brand guidelines were and what their poster designs looked like so that mine would fit in. Furthermore, though the event was far off, I had a couple deadlines pushed up so that both my client and TEDx could review the designs and give their approval.
